I found a clip Tom Hanks IS James Bond that is fun. Videos can take forever to watch because there are interminable pauses. YouTube's access to clips of events in the media world falls into the category of TV. I never have time to watch TV and, honestly, I don't find much of interest in the average YouTube video. Like much of the internet, with YouTube there is more exposure to people and events but, in direct correlation, less interaction with people and events.

I explored Flickr for Minnesota pictures of the area where I grew up. The following are great examples of typical northern Minnesota life. Major nostalgia!

I created a Flickr account. http://www.flickr.com/photos/artistemystique/ and downloaded pictures from our Dec. 2005/Jan. 2006 trip to London.

I'm also using the account to put backgrounds I designed so they are easy to access when I'm altering my blog from somewhere other than home. Also, I added a slide show of Minnesota Lake Sunsets to my blog page.

Review: A Double Bind by Chris Bohjalian

A Double Bind by Chris Bohjalian, first, requires being familiar with The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Second, having read, or watched, A Beautiful Mind: a biography of John Nash, Jr., winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in economics by Sylvia Nasar greatly helps understanding what Bohjalian is describing. The omniscient third person point of view both prepares the reader for the almost unexpected revelations at the end of the story while giving him/her hope that things will work out satisfactorily. Unfortunately, Bohjalian was unable to combine surprise and happy in his resolution of this story. The author's choice of words is often distracting. Few, if any, books can gracefully handle more than one use, if that, of such words as, detritus and phantasmagoric. Not only are such words used multiple times but, as with a lot of words and phrases in the story, they are awkward and even misapplied. To his credit, Bohjalian does a great job of making his fiction feel real. A long the way, the reader might even forget that F. Scott Fitzgerald's story never happened.

Review: The Thirteenth Tale

The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield is well written. Once started, to have any sense of what this book is about, it has to be finished. Setterfield smoothly transitions back and forth between the two stories she is simultaneously telling. Twins are an integral part of the story on multiple levels. She springs at least one major surprise element for which very few, if any, readers will suspect. The endings are as happy as the characters' life experiences can realistically be.
